The BMW i8 coupe hybrid has been getting attention on the Electric Vehicle message boards. Just take one look at it and you can see why it turns heads. I thought I would do a brief comparison post on the BMW i8 vs. Tesla Model S Performance.
By the way, if you have a BMW i8 Hybrid, live in the Calgary area and want to show it off, please message me in the comments below. I’d love to take a closer look at this car. 🙂

Pricing and Performance
Comparing these two vehicles is a little tricky. The BMW price is $149,900. The closet two options in terms of pricing for the Tesla Model S are as follows:
Option A) The Tesla Model S Performance is $130,990. (0-100 km/hr in 3.2 seconds)
Option B) The Tesla Model S Performance with Ludicrous upgrade is $157,990. (Ludicrous gets you 0-100km/hr in 2.6 seconds.)
In either option, the Model S out accelerates the BMW i8 coupe. Both cars have a maximum speed of 250 km/hr. To be honest I’ve haven’t driven either car but I’m sure they perform well. I’ll give the edge on this one to the BMW, just cause.
Clearly, the BMW wins this one with a stunning design. The scissor doors are pretty cool. The Model S is a beautiful car but let’s face it, the i8 has a special look. Having said that, the BMW isn’t going to be a daily driver. Furthermore, the Tesla will be more versatile as it can easily move more people and luggage.
The BMW certainly makes an impression. On the other hand, the Tesla Model S is beautiful too and is no slouch in the performance department. Bottom Line: If I had 150k to spend on a car, the Tesla is an easy decision as its still a great performance car, but with functionality.
What do you think about the BMW i8 vs. Tesla Model S? Which car would you choose and why? Please leave your answer in the comments below! Thanks for reading and please like, share, or post elsewhere.
I agree. The BMW looks way more bad ass. If I had to make a choice between the two, I would go for the BMW just cause it looks cooler!
Yeah, it’s hard to beat those scissor doors. I’ve seen the car out in the city, and it’s a really pretty machine.
